Preliminary Stoker Ballot

by Joe Nassise on February 1, 2008

in News

Word came this week from the Horror Writers Association that Storytellersunplugged.com, the group blog that Dave Wilson and I run, made the preliminary ballot for the Bram Stoker Award this year.

I was pleasantly surprised by the news and very grateful for the terrific posts put up by our thirty members each and every day that put us on the ballot. From here, the active membership of the HWA votes to recognize the top four works in each category to be declared nominees and put on the final ballot. The winner in each category will be declared at the Stoker Banquet, held this year during the World Horror Convention in March in Salt Lake City.

Here are the works recognized along with Storytellersunplugged for this portion of the ballot:

Superior Achievement in Nonfiction
Encyclopedia Horrifica by Joshue Gee (Scholastic)
The Science of Stephen King by Lois H. Gresh and Robert Weinberg (John Wiley & Sons, Inc.)
The Portable Obituary: How the Famous, Rich, and Powerful Really Died by Michael Largo (Harper)
The Cryptopedia: A Dictionary of the Weird, Strange & Downright Bizarre by Jonathan Maberry & David F. Kramer (Citadel Press / Kensington)
Storytellers Unplugged by Joe Nassise and David Niall Wilson (Storytellers Unplugged)

Hey, that’s us! ( It’s a good year for me…My collection and one of my short stories made the preliminary ballot, and I’m in three of the anthologies…or course we all know that this stage means little…now we see what the active members think. Still, it’s encouraging, isn’t it?
