Who doesn’t love a bundle of books?
When I heard that former Lifehacker editor Jason Chen had come up with a really neat way of delivering cool ebook content while at the same time helping out some cool charities, I couldn’t wait to get involved. I emailed Jason and as a result have had the pleasure for the last several months of watching from behind the curtain as he built Storybundle.com from the ground up. With launch day upon us, I can’t wait to show you what he’s got in store for your reading pleasure.
Remembers those indie-video game bundles where you paid-what-you-want for a stack of great titles? Well Storybundle.com is just like that, except for books! Jason selects a bundle of great ebook titles, usually tied together by theme or genre, and then offers them on a pay-what-you-want program ($1 minimum) for a limited time. Consumers get to choose how much of the income will go to a split between the authors involved and how much will go to Storybundle itself. They also get the option to donate 10% of the price to one of two charities, which this month will be MightyWriters or Trees for the Future.
So how does it work?
Pay what you want! You choose how much you want to pay for these five awesome indie books. (Click on each book above to check them out!) You decide how much of your purchase goes to the author and how much goes to help keep StoryBundle running. If your purchase price beats $7, you get two bonus books—Unstable Prototypes and Missing Signals—the sequels to Bypass Gemini and John Gone, respectively. This way you can rest assured in the knowledge that you already have the sequels to these wonderful titles without having to pay full price later.
Zero DRM. There’s no DRM on any of our books. None. Why? For one, we don’t believe DRM actually stops people from sharing what they want to share. Second, and most importantly, we don’t believe we should be treating our customers as criminals. So go ahead and put these on your tablets, Kindles and smartphones, but if a friend wants to read the bundle, have them buy one for themselves. Or better yet, buy one as a gift! Support indie authors!
