Structuring Your Novel Class starts Thursday – Still Time to Sign up!

structuring-your-novel

Building a novel is like building a house. It’s only going to stand up if you start with a strong foundation.

In order to deliver the powerful emotional experience readers crave, you need to manage the conflict like a master architect. All the pieces need to be in the exact right place. And in order to do that, you have to understand your story at a structural level.

Joseph Nassise is the author of more than 20 novels. He’s seen success in both traditional and self-publishing. He’s written critically-acclaimed, internationally best-selling books, like the Templar Chronicles series. The dude knows how to write a book.

And he’s here to show you how.

This workshop will teach you the elemental structure that is at the core of every successful story. It’ll teach you how to adapt that structure to your work-in-progress, laying down the necessary foundation—and increasing its chance of success in the marketplace—letting you move forward with confidence.

In this class, you’ll get in-depth written lectures, homework assignments that’ll be critiqued by Joe and your classmates, and opportunities to pick Joe’s best-selling brain along the way.

* Because this class runs through the holiday season, assignment deadlines will be flexible, and extra time will be built into the schedule if required.

Judgment Day now available!

Judgment Day is here!

The long-awaited fifth book in the Templar Chronicles is now available at the usual ebook retailers, with a paperback edition to follow by the end of the month.  This book picks up right where Infernal Games left off and answers quite a few questions that have arisen up to this point in the series.  Here’s the cover art and jacket copy…

Judgment Day JUDGMENT DAY
Book Five of the Templar Chronicles Series

Cade Williams’ worst nightmare has come true. The Necromancer’s black magick has not only released the Adversary from the infernal realms where Cade imprisoned it, but allowed the fallen angel to possess the body of Cade’s beloved wife, Gabrielle, in the process. When the Templars interrupt the ritual and kill the Necromancer, the Adversary sprouts wings and escapes into the darkness.

Branded a traitor by the Templars for his cooperation with the sorcerer, willing or not, Cade finds himself hunted by his former allies as an enemy of the Order while working feverishly to track down the Adversary and rescue his wife from the vile creature’s control. It is almost too much for the weary Echo Team commander to handle.

Just when he thinks things can’t get any worse, he makes contact with a creature known as the Forsaken One and discovers answers to the questions that have haunted him since the Adversary first appeared in his life. Answers that may ultimately cost him more than he ever imagined.

2015 Your Novel Year Mentor

Piper Center LogoI’m extremely pleased to announce that I will be one of the professional mentors for the Science Fiction and Fantasy track of the 2015 Your Novel Year writing program at Arizona State University’s Piper Center for Creative Writing!

This is a fabulous program for anyone interested in writing a novel for professional publication.  The course is 18 months long – you spent the first 12 months writing your book under the watchful eye of your instructors and mentor and then another 6 months honing and polishing to prepare the work for either submission or self-publication.

A full breakdown of how the course is taught can be found at http://piper.asu.edu/novel/course-structure-timeline/

Instructors for the SF&F track include Mike Stackpole and Paul Cook.

Mentors for the SF&F track include myself, my good friends Jeff Mariotte and Kevin J Anderson, and the indomitable Alan Dean Foster.

Application deadline is September 30th so don’t miss out!

The Creative Process

I just watched a video about Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black’s creative process and loved it so much I wanted to share it with you all.  His thoughts on being original, and the way he lays out his project before writing the first word, all resonant strongly with me.  (His process is actually my process – I just do it for novels instead of screenplays!)

Enjoy!

The Great Website Disaster of 2014

Yes, that’s what I’m calling it – the Great Website Disaster of 2014.  Why?  Well because I needed to move to a new database (having outgrown the early one after 8 years of content) and my hosting provider is so totally incompetent (thanks 1and1.com!) that I was unable to move any of my content to the new database.  Support techs who don’t know what they are talking about, support techs who barely sound fluent in English, support techs who know less about actual trouble shooting than I do – yep, that’s what fun I’ve been having for the last week.

So, rather than send my blood pressure any further through the roof, I finally said “forget it” and decided to start from scratch.

The new website is slowly coming together and should be completely live in the next week or two.  For now, if you need anything specific that you can’t find on the site, feel free to use the Contact page.
